Urban environments, especially when highly populated, face significant challenges around food sustainability, green space, and community. This is evident around the Union canal but has the potential to be transformed into a productive and vibrant green area. In this interdisciplinary project, learners look at vertical farming systems as a solution to transform the area around the canal into a community-centred green space that promotes healthy food, environmental awareness, and social connection.
Sophie’s unit design idea sets out details for problem-based interdisciplinary learning that addresses outdoor learning, STEM and sustainability, linked to specific UN development goals, all connected within the four capacities of the curriculum.
